- Google translation offers a translation by a machine. It's a good way to get a first impression of the meaning of words in another
language. According to my experience the Google translation works best in connection with English, probably because it's the language most
people are able to collaborate in.
- I use the Google Translator to read and write tweets very often, as I enjoy to communicate with friends from multiple language backgrounds.
It is fun. Nobody expects a perfect translation from a machine. It gives an impression. It allows people to read and to some extend to communicate
in different languages. Not perfect and with mistakes - but that's part of the fun.
- Semantically the Google Translator stays very close to the language from which it translates. Very often it's a translation word by word,
creating strange sentences in the process of translation. Actually I like the way the original language shimmers through the translation.
- Then there are those words with double meanings, like the English "fan" - welcome in translation- hell: the translator will lead you utterly
astray - but most of the time you notice "Eh? There is something wrong here..." And for those occasions there are the wonderful online dictionaries.
Like Leo, which I use many times each day.
-
- Of course: to really learn a language is work. The translator offers an easy way to slip into a language, in connection with Twitter you
might find interesting people to talk to and to gradually evolve your skills. And then you might be motivated to attend that language course.
